About me

I started tutoring people in their own home after I attended an evening course on webdesign at a local college a couple of years ago.
During the coffee break I sat next to a couple of older (in their 70's) ladies who were on a different course, it turned out that they were doing word processing, why? To them computers were fancy typewriters and what do you do with a typewriter? You do word processing!

It worried me that these two ladies who clearly had a desire to learn something new had been enrolled on a word processing course, what would they be like now if they were on an internet for beginners course?


It is because of those two old ladies that I only teach what people want or need to learn, I don't stick to a syllabus for a particular exam (unless you want to of course!) but would rather try and explain the possibilities of the internet or a spreadsheet in the context of someone’s day to day life to see if we can put a course together that will genuinely enhance someone’s life through a new experience.
A great example is teaching my parents how to use Skype, a program that lets you talk (and video if you want) to friends anywhere in the world....for free! They have recently returned from a trip to Australia which they organised and then kept in touch with people by using Skype.

I enjoy meeting new people and passing on some of the knowledge I have learnt, although part of my degree (many years ago!) was in Computers I have mostly taught myself to use a variety of programes as, and when, I needed to.

I am a firm believer that Technology is great and should be used all the time, but if it's not working for you then it's no good and something has to change.

It is important that you trust people coming into your house, so I can provide references and a Criminal Records Bureau check to make you feel more comfortable.


Charges

I charge by the hour for tuition, prices currently start from £25 per hour.

A 10% discount is available to anyone booking and paying for 8 hours up front

Travel expenses - I cover Olney and surrounding areas free of travel expenses if you live outside that area please get in touch and we can discuss rates.

For corporate training, database or web design work I can either work on a hourly (£50ph) basis, daily (£350pd) or fixed price based on a quotation.

Payment

Is due at the end of each session, payable as cash, paypal, cheque (made payable to Enhancing Businesses ltd) or bank transfer, an invoice will be sent for your records.

At present I am unable to process credit or debit card transactions unless you are a PayPal user.
